Seventh Day Adventist

On the way to our house there is a Seventh Day Adventist boarding high school. They have a bilboard out front with inspirational quotes for those who drive by. The quote today was "When motivation fades, habits prevail." I thought about this and realized what a nugget of truth this is.

My husband Adam works 12 hour shifts...3 days one week and 4 days the next week. He works Saturdays and is off on Mondays. So our Mondays have become our Saturdays. Needless to say, this has messed us all up a little bit. Reprogramming of the brain's patterns is in full swing.

So, what does Adam's work schedule have to do with the quote, you might ask? I tend to be more motivated when he is not around. Why this is I'm not sure. I think it has to do with the fact that he is not a distraction if he is not around. I can focus on my list of things to do and be in my own little world. When he is home (I love it!) but I want to chill and just be together as a family. This means I am not as productive on the things that "need" to get done. Sometimes I find myself vegging a little too much because the momentum and motivation of being and doing on my own are gone. Some of the habits (aka: TV) that I am trying to break slide back into my life without me even knowing.

I have come to realize that the above quote is so very applicable to my life. Staying motivated to do the fun, new, creative, important things of the day is essential in living a full life free of idle and wasteful habits.
