Having received free fabric and patterns, I have decided to sew a dress for Valentine's Day for Emmalee. It doesn't matter that I've never learned how to sew. I'm determined to do it anyway in my quest to learn new things and gain new skills and talents. Needless to say, I have had to sew 2 bodice portions to this dress. Yes, the same dress...2 bodice portions. Why? Well, the pattern didn't make sense to me, and for some reason there was this extra fabric sticking out. So, I cut it off. I laugh at myself now. Why would the pattern call for this extra fabric if it wasn't going to be used in some way? I sewed bodice #1 together anyway and realized it was a little too snug for Emmalee. I went back to the pattern and studied and studied and studied to determine what I did wrong. Then I realized that what I cut off made all the difference, and that the pattern really was right...not me. Such a humorous and humbling moment rolled into one. Luckily, I had extra fabric and was able to start from scratch. Guess what...this one is perfect! Thanks, Mom, for helping me even though you couldn't see what I was talking about. I will get better! I may even put sleeves on Emmalee's next outfit! I will post the finished product so you can all ooh and ahh!
